We set up 4SA to do things a little differently.

We want to make your architectural journey an enjoyable and enriching one.

We are a sustainable practice working with existing buildings in Conservation Areas in the residential and workplace sectors. Our buildings respond to the stories of their inhabitants with spaces that endure and inspire.

We work collaboratively, continually investigating new materials and techniques to inform and add value to the design and delivery of our projects.

We are proud of what our clients say about working with us.

Our commercial clients…

“From the outset, 4 S Architecture displayed a highly professional and collaborative attitude, making the journey from design conception through to the technical detailing a seamless and enjoyable one. Their team not only understood our requirements, but brought fresh, innovative ideas to the table, ensuring that our brand values and visions were met, while working within our budgetary constraints.

Their creative design ideas transformed this once tired building, into a fresh modern working environment. The additional sustainability measures including triple glazed windows with solar film are expected to show a reduction in energy consumption to heat and cool the building.

The responsiveness of 4SA’s team as well as their attention to detail, expertise and dedication to delivering excellence have set them apart, and I look forward to working with them again.”

Hatton Garden, Group Property Director, June 2023

“We have worked with 4 S Architecture to add value to a number of challenging heritage properties, including the Grade II listed buildings at 100 Pall Mall, 10 Grosvenor Place, and 1-17 Ulster Terrace, as well as the mews property 40 Headfort Place.

With their knowledge of historic buildings, and their commitment to high-quality design, 4 S Architecture developed innovative design solutions that were granted listed building consent. 4 S Architecture are a realiable practice with a collaborative attitude, working seamlessly with us and letting agents to take onboard market-led design requirements throughout the process. Their ability to respond quickly on site to unexpected conditions also ensures that opportunities to add value are taken advantage of, and the project progresses smoothly through construction to a successful end product.”

Stuart, Asset Manager

“4SA have acted as lead designer on complex office refurbishment schemes on Grade II listed buildings. The nature of historic listed buildings makes design and installation challenging, but 4SA delivered displaying high standards and professionalism throughout the projects, from brief and concept design to technical design and construction.

The attention to detail for tender and onsite is excellent and when variations arise, 4SA are quick to adapt and respond. From a Project Manager’s perspective, 4SA are a great addition to the team.”

Ulster Terrace, Project Manager, September 2023

Our residential clients…

“4 S Architecture has been excellent in helping us negotiate a tricky planning consent. Our house dates back to the early 19th century and could well be older. We live in the historic core of the village within the conservation area. 4 S Architecture helped negotiate a complex series of constraints including heritage sensitivities, mature trees, flood levels, ecology and existing drainage to successfully secure planning consent for our project earlier this year. 4SA have been proactive, positive and consistently professional and we have very much enjoyed working with them.”

Alasdair, Linton Conservation Area, South Cambridgeshire District Council (February 2023)

“4 S Architecture were an inspirational partner in planning my extension, and an invaluable intermediary in getting permission from it from the council! I thoroughly looked forward to meetings with Julia, where she patiently considered all my thoughts for the extension, gently worked them into a vastly better vision, and presented impeccable documents at every step of the way. So glad to have chosen 4SA - highly recommended!”

Will, Camberwell Grove Conservation Area, July 2023

To say we are pleased is an understatement. We feel so good about our new kitchen, it’s made such a difference to our every day life not just practically but it’s just so beautiful to look at and be in.

Julia, you made the whole process bearable, you were so thorough and always around to chat things through and always positive. Thanks for all your meticulous details, they definitely made all the difference to the finished product.

4 S Architecture expertly handled all the necessary paperwork, planning applications, and co-ordination with Contractors, allowing us to relax and enjoy the journey without worrying about the technicalities making  it easy for us to focus on other aspects of our lives while knowing that we were in capable hands.

We wholeheartedly recommend 4 S Architecture to anyone seeking an architectural firm that takes the stress out of the process and delivers remarkable results.”

Nicola and Patrick, Sunnyhill Road Conservation Area, London Borough of Lambeth (June 2023).

“4SA have done an amazing job in designing a large two storey rear and side extension to our house, making the best of the existing building and using thoughtful design to create new spaces that enhance the overall property enormously. Julia has been excellent at communicating with us in managing the project, presenting clear options, and supporting us through decision making steps along the way.”

James and Anna, The Green Belt, Berkshire, Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, December 2020
