New appointment: Grosvenor Place

We have just started to develop our proposals for the refurbishment of a floor in this beautiful Grade II listed French Renaissance property opposite Buckingham Palace Garden. These elegant terrace homes were built by The Grosvenor Estate to house nobility who wanted to be close to the nearby Buckingham Palace and replaced older townhomes which were first constructed on this site after King George III purchased Buckingham House in 1761 to house the royal family.

These elegant terraces were built between 1867-1869 to designs by Thomas Cundy the younger and feature original timber panelling and elaborate Rococo plasterwork on the ceiling and walls which it is believed were executed by Parisian plasterers. The architecture was no doubt inspired by the newly built Grosvenor Hotel (built in 1860), which first brought the French Renaissance style to London and made it popular at this time.

The proposals will add value to the property for our client through the introduction of carefully considered new services, lighting, flooring and amenities which will allow the space to meet the demands of the contemporary office worker while still retaining its unique historic character.
